Coach Anson Callaway came to Lyons on June , 1961 as a Middle School Physical Education Teacher and Coach, as well as, part-time Recreation Director. After several years of playing in five different locations, Partin Park was opened in 1975 with two playing fields, a concession stand, and a small office. After a five bypass heart surgery in 1987, Coach Callaway retired from teaching to become the full-time Recreation Director of Lyons Recreation Department.

For the last 23 years, Partin Park has expanded to one of the finest small town parks in the state under the leadership and vision and Coach Anson Callaway. With the help of the recreation department’s committee members, the City of Lyons, and Toombs County, the park has continued its growth and has excelled. Coach Callaway expresses his sincere thanks and appreciation for the many monetary donations of individuals and organizations, which he sees as the greatest blessing of all to the parks continual expansion.

Partin Park is 37 years old and has many activities, fields, and facilities to offer.

  • Half Mile Lighted Walking/Running Track
  • Half Mile Nature Trail
  • Four State of the Art Buildings for Rent (All buildings include complete kitchen, ice machine, and tables and chairs)
  • Eight Playground Areas
  • Nine Outdoor Pavilions for Parties
  • Covered Bleachers on all Playing Fields
  • Complete Electrical Plugins with Water (Used for Real Squeal Barbecue Event in October)

Partin Park is also the site for the country’s larges and longest on going youth tournament which takes place in June every year. In 2012, the Lyons Youth Tournament celebrated its 50th consecutive year with over 100 teams ever year! The park is also famous for the best chicken fingers around and the Green Monster on field #1.

Today, programs are offered in Baseball and Softball, Basketball, Football, Soccer, and Tee Ball. Coach Callaway and the Lyons Recreation Department Staff also has over 400 Senior Adults on their activities mailing list, and provides them with opportunities of fellowship and fun each quarter in the Callaway Center. Coach Callaway has said many times, “We have a very nice park with a lot of stuff, but we are in the ‘people business’ from the cradle to the grave.” Come see us at Partin Park!

The Lyons Recreation Department will be closed on Wednesdays until the end of August. Office hours are Mon., Tues., Thurs., and Fri. from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
